Kennedy & Ferraro to Co-Host Blood Drive

    Facing Nationwide Blood Crisis

ORANGE – State Reps. Kathy Kennedy (R-119) and Charles Ferraro (R-117) will be co-hosting a Blood Drive on February 16th in conjunction with the American Red Cross at the High Plains Community Center.

    • WHAT: American Red Cross Blood Drive
    • WHEN: Wednesday, February 16, 12pm-5pm
    • WHERE: High Plains Community Center Gymnasium on 525 Orange Center Road

The Orange lawmakers are co-hosting this Blood Drive after the American Red Cross declared a National blood crisis to start 2022. According to the American Red Cross– its worst blood shortage in over a decade, posing a concerning risk to patient care. The blood shortage is threatening patient care and forcing doctors to make tough choices about who is able to receive blood transfusions, and it’s urging people to donate.

In recent weeks, the Red Cross — which provides some 40% of the nation’s blood — has had less than a one-day supply of critical blood types and has had to limit blood product distributions to hospitals.

According to the Red Cross, the entire blood donor process takes about one hour. The donation itself is only about 8-10 minutes on average. Restrictions due to weight, health or travel may apply and donors are urged to check their eligibility beforehand by going to https://www.redcross.org/give-blood.html or by contacting a local chapter.

Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment prior to arriving at the drive. You can make an appointment by visiting https://www.redcrossblood.org/ and using the sponsor code “OrangeCT.” Donors can also download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to make an appointment or for more information.

This event is free and open to the public. For information about blood donation or other ways to help, please go to the American Red Cross website: https://www.redcrossblood.org/

Why I Voted “NO” on the State Budget

Last night, I stood against the State Budget proposal that overspends money we don’t have, raises taxes on businesses and consumers, and makes our state more unaffordable over the next two years. Remember: This budget is a 700+ page document that addresses a wide variety of issues, many of which do NOT reflect our desires […]

Advocating for Child and Senior Safety

Today, I proudly stood with members of the Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity, & Opportunity (CWCSEO) and colleagues on the Transportation Committee in support of HB 7159, also known as the Yellow Envelope Bill. This bill will help law enforcement safely communicate with persons who have intellectual and physical disabilities. Each yellow envelope provides […]
