Kennedy Earns Key Committee Assignments

Looking to Rebuild CT Economy
HARTFORD— On Friday, December 4, 2020, State Representative Kathy Kennedy was appointed Lead Member of the General Assembly’s Executive Committee by House Republican Leader-elect State Representative Vincent Candelora (R-86). A Ranking Member serves as the leader of the minority party in committee meetings and works with the Committee Leadership to bring forward legislation.
Rep. Kennedy said, “I am honored my leader, Rep. Candelora has the faith in me to be the top House Republican on this committee. Every nominee by the governor needs a proper and thorough vetting to make sure they are well-equipped to handle the large agencies they will lead, especially during a pandemic which may require additionally health and safety protocols.”
“Kathy had a great first term and has proven herself as a well-rounded legislator. Her skill set as a former respected president of a statewide parent association, along with serving on numerous other committees is a perfect fit for Ranking member on Executive Nominations. This committee asks the tough questions of nominees of the executive branch and of potential appointees of the legislature–its members are responsible for screening people who will serve our state residents at the highest levels. I am confident that Kathy will be respectful of the process and ensure only the best serve our residents,” said Rep. Candelora.
Kennedy, recently elected to her second term as state representative of the 119th General Assembly District will once again serve on the Education and Public Health Committees with the added responsibility of serving on the powerful Appropriations committee, which is the budget-writing for the state legislature.
The Education Committee works on state education policy for K-12 schools. The Public Health Committee has cognizance over state public health policy.
“I am energized to start a new legislative session with new responsibilities. With COVID, we have seen the best in people and our state government, but it has also revealed some significant weak spots in our support systems, nursing home safety, and the processing of unemployment claims, which need to be addressed to better serve our community,” said Rep. Kennedy.
Her responsibilities in these committees begin at the start of the next legislative session on January 6, 2021.
Rep. Kathy Kennedy represents the 119th District which encompasses portions of Milford & Orange.
