Kennedy Demands Transparency in Higher Education Funding

(HARTFORD) — On Tuesday, leaders of state universities testified before the Appropriations Committee, requesting increased funding for structural improvements, salaries, and other education resources. During their testimony, State Representative Kathy Kennedy (R-119) demanded more transparency from university leaders before committing to the requested funding increase.

“But here’s the thing that my constituents bring to me every single January, ‘Did you see the salaries?’,” said Kennedy in an interview with NBC Connecticut. “Let’s responsibly fund higher education by demanding more transparency and ensuring funds are used to support students and improve education quality.”

Kennedy continues to fight for transparent funding on all aspects during this shorter session, where legislators are tasked with considering changes to last year’s state budget agreement. Although open to changes, she is committed to supporting the successful fiscal guardrails, established in 2017, that have served to maintain funding, increasing our rainy day fund, and paying down our state deficit.

Last night, I stood against the State Budget proposal that overspends money we don’t have, raises taxes on businesses and consumers, and makes our state more unaffordable over the next two years. Remember: This budget is a 700+ page document that addresses a wide variety of issues, many of which do NOT reflect our desires […]

Today, I proudly stood with members of the Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity, & Opportunity (CWCSEO) and colleagues on the Transportation Committee in support of HB 7159, also known as the Yellow Envelope Bill. This bill will help law enforcement safely communicate with persons who have intellectual and physical disabilities. Each yellow envelope provides […]
