Kennedy Defends Consumers and Businesses before EV Agenda – HB 5485

(HARTFORD) — On Wednesday, State Representative Kathy Kennedy (R-119) joined the Transportation Committee for a scheduled meeting to discuss the future of Governor Lamont’s proposed Electric Vehicle (EV) mandate. The current bill, HB 5485, An Act Concerning Transportation Infrastructure for Electric Vehicles, creates a multi-pronged approach to phasing-in the mandated use of electric vehicles for Connecticut consumers.

After being withdrawn from the Legislative Regulation Review Committee last fall, and more recently suspended from being the topic for a special legislative session this winter, the EV mandate has received major public backlash, with many associating this agenda with government overreach.

“Consumers, businesses, and low-income families must come before the EV agenda,” said Kennedy during the meeting. “As an environmentalist, I support exploring clean energy alternatives, but not if it negatively impacts our economy, environment, and quality of life. I want to recognize the 500+ residents who took the time to submit testimony in opposition of this bill, until we have an alternative that doesn’t limit consumer choice and decrease business development.”
