State Representative Arnold Jensen Responds to Threats in Naugatuck

Key Takeaways
- Arnold Jensen condemns alleged threats against Republicans in Naugatuck
- FBI New Haven and Naugatuck police are investigating
There is a reason I choose my words carefully, even when I feel strongly about an issue. Political leaders have a responsibility to consider how we speak about one another and the example we set.
The alleged threats by a Naugatuck resident to kill Republicans, including people in our own community, are a deeply disturbing reminder of what is at stake. As a Republican representing part of Naugatuck in the Connecticut House of Representatives, I view these alleged statements as a direct threat.
I will never participate in or condone the inflammatory political rhetoric that has become far too common. We can challenge policies, criticize decisions, and hold elected officials accountable without stirring up hatred toward the people we disagree with.
I will speak firmly about my convictions. But it is never acceptable to threaten a political opponent, treat them as an enemy, or excuse threatening language because it comes from someone on my side.
Behind every candidate, elected official, and campaign volunteer is a person with a family. No one should have to worry that their involvement in politics could put them or their loved ones in danger.
I thank FBI New Haven and the Naugatuck Police Department for investigating these serious allegations and acting to protect our community.
We each have a responsibility to lower the temperature. That starts with the words we choose.
