The State Bond Commission has approved $782,565 in grant funding for debris removal and dredging work in Oxford’s Little River. The funding will go a long way toward restoring the river to its original condition and location, which shifted after flash floods hit the area in August 2024.
This project has many benefits, including reducing the impact of any future flooding events by increasing the flow of the Little River; returning the waterway to a fishing area which will allow DEEP to once again stock the river with trout; and assisting the Town of Seymour by removing debris from the river which could otherwise be washed into Seymour during subsequent flowing events.
Last year’s flash floods really impacted so many residents and business owners throughout our district. The community has rallied to engage in the recovery process, as it always does after this type of challenge presents itself. I was pleased to be able to assist in ushering this funding request through the state bonding process, and I will continue to work with town officials in my district, and state officials as needed, to support recovery efforts until recovery is complete.
