HARTFORD — State Rep. Greg Howard (R-43), a second term legislator representing Stonington, North Stonington and Ledyard took the oath of office on Wednesday, determined to provide some financial relief to Connecticut residents as the state continues to over-collect taxes leading to a record surplus.

“Connecticut’s families need some reprieve from burdensome taxes and the record high inflation they are facing for food, fuel and other essential products,” Howard said. “I am determined to be a strong voice of reason for my district and their families.

Rep. Howard will also tackle the issue of public safety in our state, protecting the rights of victims ahead of the rights of criminals and making sure law enforcement which is currently understaffed throughout the state are provided the necessary tools to do their job.

In December, House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora reappointed Howard as ranking member of the Public Safety and Security Committee, Howard will bring his real-life experience and priorities to legislative matters.

Howard will also serve on the legislature’s Judiciary and Education Committees.

In the fall of 2020 with COVID still prevalent, Howard led the fight to keep our students in school through a ‘test and stay’ policy; the governor finally permitted students to stay in school limiting missed school days for students, when presented with the medical evidence. The quarantine policy was failing our state students.

The legislative session lasts until June 7.
