Rep. Howard Hosts Informative ‘Navigating the CT Legislature’ Forum
NORTH STONINGTON- In a crowded room, State Rep. Greg Howard (R-43) spent Thursday evening with interested local residents explaining how a bill concept goes through the process and how the proposal becomes a new law, and how each and every one of those in attendance can better advocate for a state issue they feel strongly about.
The forum took place at North Stonington Education Center, with Rep. Howard going over the legislative process using a slide show presentation. Howard was accompanied by Mystic resident Andrew Feinstein of Special Education Equity for Kids in Connecticut.
“I want to thank everyone who came out tonight,” Rep. Howard said, “This was a good non-political way to show constituents how a bill proposal from a legislator is vetted by colleagues on both sides of the aisle and the public before we get to vote on a final product in the House of Representatives.”
Some of the information covered includes:
- The General Assembly committee process.
- How to track bills.
- How to testify for or against a specific bill proposal.
- What kind of bills are proposed in a long versus a short session.
After the presentation, Rep. Greg Howard answered questions from the audience on the process.
