Rep. Howard Condemns Floor Comments by House Colleague

State Rep. Greg Howard (R-Stonington), the ranking member of the Public Safety and Security committee is condemning the insensitive and shameful remarks made by State Representative Gale Mastrofrancesco (R-Southington/Wolcott) during a House of Representatives Special Session in Hartford on Monday September 27th.

Comparing the last words of George Floyd “I can’t breathe” a man murdered by a bad police officer who has since been convicted and sentenced to murder to children in schools wearing masks due to Covid is just plain wrong. Whether referring to a tee-shirt slogan or not, that kind of rhetoric is unacceptable.

Distasteful comments like this only distract from the chief reason we came to Hartford to vote. My colleagues and I, duly elected by the people of our legislative districts, do not believe the state of Connecticut is in a current state of emergency. While Governor Lamont has done a wonderful job combatting Covid, there is no reason he should have his emergency executive powers extended to February 2022, leaving the General Assembly on the sidelines.

This exemption […]
