HARTFORD – To allow the citizens to have their voices heard on the question of early voting, State Representative Greg Howard (R-43) supported passage of HJ 59, Resolution Approving An Amendment To The State Constitution To Allow For Early Voting.
“Today I voted to give -you – the voter, a chance to determine whether early voting is something we should have in Connecticut.” Rep. Howard said, “People in my district, especially with the stress of family schedules are always asking for more flexibility and accessibility to vote. Early voting would help promote greater voter participation.”
HJ 59 is a proposed constitutional amendment that would permit the legislature to consider in-person early voting in state and local elections. Currently, 43 states plus the District of Columbia offer some form of early voting.
With today’s passage in the House of Representatives, the resolution now moves to the State Senate. The public would see the question on the 2022 ballot which would read: “Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to permit the General Assembly to provide for early voting?”
