Tax-Free Week August 18-24

Governor Lamont made a proposal earlier this year that would have eliminated our “Tax-Free Week.” Based on the fact that $1.7 billion in new taxes were recently approved with the two-year budget, I stood firmly against this proposal in order to provide minimal financial relief to the hard-working individuals and families throughout the state.

Eversource Equipment Inspections in Canton

CANTON – Eversource will be conducting aerial inspections of high-voltage electrical equipment in Canton. There will be a low flying helicopter in our area over the coming days, equipped with heat-sensing, infrared scanning technology to detect potential equipment issues. DOT Road Closures in Avon: Tillotson Road & Old Farms Road

Saturday, July 20th, the DOT will be closing Tillotson Road and the portion of Old Farms Road around the intersection next to Fisher Meadows in Avon beginning at 6:00 a.m. The closure is necessary to facilitate construction of a new roadway as part of a bridge replacement project over the Farmington River. Tillotson Road and the portion of Old Farms Road, where the two roads intersect, will be closed through Monday, August 5th.

HARTFORD – State Rep. Leslee Hill (R-Canton) stood with her Republican colleagues to oppose the Democrat budget, which came up for debate during Monday’s House session. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Click it or Ticket” campaign began this week and runs through June 2nd.

The annual Click It or Ticket campaign aims at enforcing seat belt use to help keep travelers safe as they drive to their summer destinations. The campaign includes over 10,000 law enforcement agencies nationwide, all of which will be out on the roads to remind drivers and passengers to buckle their seat belts, and to ticket those who aren’t wearing them.
