$24.5 MILLION IN STATE GRANTS TO 60 SMALL TOWNS FOR INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS

State Representative Cindy Harrison (R-69) today announced that the State has awarded three Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grants to the 69th district towns of Bridgewater, Roxbury and Southbury for the continued improvement of municipal buildings and infrastructure projects.

Bridgewater is slated to receive $232,000 in state funding to help replace the roof on the Burnham Library. The town will provide a $58,000 match.

Roxbury will receive $250,000 in state funding to remove and replace two underground storage tanks. The town will provide a $50,000 match.

Southbury will receive $276,412 for improvements to the transfer station. The town will provide a $70,000 match.

“These grants will help make Bridgewater, Roxbury and Southbury make much-needed safety improvements to important, community resources and I want to thank OPM and the governor for approving these funds for the 69th District,” Rep. Harrison said. “These safety and infrastructure investments will be beneficial to our community for years to come.”

By law, STEAP grants can only be used for capital projects, such as new construction or expansion, renovation or replacement for an existing facility or facilities. The grants are coordinated by the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management.

The grants are part of a larger $24.5 million package of state grants for 60 small towns announced by Governor Lamont this week. The grants are provided through the Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP), a state program managed by the Office of Policy and Management (OPM) that delivers grants to small towns for economic development, community conservation, and quality-of-life capital projects.
