Rep. Harrison Applauds Arts Grants for Two New Milford Organizations

Posted on December 4, 2023

State Representative Cindy Harrison (R-69) applauded recent news that the Connecticut Department of Economic & Community Development (DECD) is providing grant funds to two New Milford arts organizations.

The Merryall Community Center, Inc. is slated to receive a grant totaling $3,043, and TheatreWorks New Milford, Inc. will receive $2,865 as part of DECD’s Supporting Arts Grant Program. This year, 232 grants totaling $1,050,000 were awarded statewide.

“I want to thank the DECD for recognizing the importance of the arts to our state and for their continued investment into the Supporting Arts grant program,” Rep. Harrison said. “The arts are an incredibly important piece of each community and these funds will undoubtedly be used to bring culture and joy to the people of New Milford and the surrounding area well into the future.”

According to DECD, “the Supporting Arts grant program provides general operating support to Connecticut arts organizations and municipal arts departments. This type of grant is flexible and gives the grantee the ability to use the funds where they are most needed.”

The Supporting Arts grant program is funded with state and federal funds, including from the National Endowment for the Arts.  More information about the Supporting Arts grant program can be found at: https://portal.ct.gov/DECD/Content/Arts-and-Culture/Funding_Opportunities/Supporting-Arts-Grant
