Sen. John A. Kissel (R-Enfield) and Rep. Carol Hall (R-59) today issued the following statements regarding the future closure of the Willard building of the Willard-Cybulski Correctional Institution.

“The closure will not reduce Enfield’s PILOT funding, which is positive news,” Sen. Kissel said.  “In addition, it is also positive news that employees at the facility will not lose their jobs but instead be redeployed in the system. We continue to have a good working relationship with the Department of Correction, and I think this is something we can all get behind.”

“Willard’s closure comes at a time when its inmate population is slightly above half of its capacity, so it makes sense from a fiscal standpoint that if we’re not utilizing the whole facility to consolidate it and save the state some money,” Rep. Hall said. “I’m pleased to hear that after speaking with DOC Commissioner Angel Quiros the correctional officers currently employed there will not be laid off and will be relocated to a facility of their choosing.”
