    Scantic River State Park Update

    Scantic River State Park Update
This article was archived from the previous WordPress site. Formatting and media should be close, but may not match the original post perfectly.

On Friday, I, along with Mayor Ken Nelson, Town Manager Matthew Coppler, and members of the Town Council, met with representatives from the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) to address the rise in out-of-state visitors to this area and reduce the environmental impact the items left behind are having on this beautiful site.

What came from this meeting is that DEEP has committed to placing more park rangers down at the site, which is great news! The town has also promised to add more NO PARKING signs further up the road to prevent people from illegally parking and have also promised to begin towing any vehicle who chooses to ignore these warning signs.

All in all, it was a great cooperative resolution and important to reconvene so that all invested parties can recommit to keeping this area for its intended use, and that is a linear hiking park.

We are scheduled to meet again in May 2026 just to see how things are going and ensure everyone still remains on the same page.
