HARTFORD – Today, State Representative Carol Hall (R-59) responded to Governor Lamont extending his emergency powers for another three months.

“Our districts don’t want to continue to hear “I’m sorry, but our hands are tied,” Rep. Hall said. “Many of our constituents want their voices heard and continue to feel like they’re being ignored with each of these extensions. Governor Lamont needs to abdicate his throne to allow the full legislature an opportunity do the job they were elected to do and to discuss and to provide a voice of our constituency.

On March 10, 2020, Gov. Lamont declared a public health and civil preparedness emergency which were scheduled to remain in effect until September 9, 2020. Eight days before they were to expire, he declared a new public health and civil preparedness emergency which extended to February 9, 2021. Today, Gov. Lamont filed a letter with the Secretary of the State’s office to once again renew the states of emergency through April 20, 2021.

“This is not how our government is supposed to be run,” Rep. Hall said. “While we all appreciate the emergency nature at the beginning of this pandemic, we now enter into our second year with more knowledge and a vaccination schedule. Now is the time to return to our normal course of governing.”
