Rep. Davis and Hall Discuss Legislative Session with Residents

EAST WINDSOR –State Representatives Chris Davis (R-57) and Carol Hall (R-59) recently held a Legislative Town Hall Meeting style event in East Windsor to hear from community members about issues important to them.
Members from the community joined Reps. Davis and Hall at the East Windsor Town Hall to discuss the current legislative session and state government in general. Common themes from the meeting included the shifting of teachers’ pensions to towns, the proposed firearm permit fee increase, potential implications from the proposed casino, and the crumbling foundation issue.
“The governor’s budget proposal is not the best way forward and places too much burden on our local municipalities and hardworking residents,” said Rep. Davis. “We are facing a major budget deficit this year, next year, and the year after that and difficult decisions will need to be made, but first we need to make sure we are prioritizing our spending, supporting our businesses, and making long term structural changes to the way Hartford operates. I am committed to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to create real reforms that will kick start our economy and create jobs, and I encourage all residents to remain vocal and to reach out to us with ideas or concerns you may have regarding the state.”
Residents also raised concerns regarding the unfunded state employee pensions and how the state can move forward while still funding these obligations.
“Residents are extremely worried as to the impact the Governor’s proposed budget will have on our community,” said Rep. Hall. “Connecticut faces an uphill battle in regards to the budget deficit, but to further balance it on the backs of the taxpayer is not acceptable. I will also do everything in my power to prevent the Governor from shifting the responsibility for teachers’ pensions to the towns. Our community should not be put under such enormous and immediate financial pressure as a result of the State’s poor fiscal management. We need to re-evaluate where we are spending our money and what redundancies can be eliminated in order to effectively plan a future for Connecticut.”
