Local Control Voices Restored in Solar Development Projects

Local Control Voices Restored in Solar Development Projects

Too often, the voices of our local municipalities are left out of the conversations when it comes to the placement of renewable energy projects. With the recent passage of HB-5361, AN ACT CONCERNING THE SITING OF RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES IN THE STATE, our municipalities will now have a rightful seat at that table.

This bill gives chief executive officers from a given municipality the right to apply a moratorium on future solar projects within the radius of a 2-megawatt project which will encompass most of the farm area in Enfield and East Windsor. I am pleased that this bill will restore more local control when it comes to these types of projects, and I completely agree with our residents that these large developments DO NOT belong in residential neighborhoods.
