HARTFORD – State Representative Carol Hall (R-59) was appointed Ranking Member of the legislature’s Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee and will serve as a member of the Public Safety Committee and the Appropriations Committee.

The new assignments will take effect on January 9th at the start of the next legislative term.

“I am excited to take on a new role as Ranking Member,” said Rep. Hall. “The Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee plays an important role overseeing job training programs and our colleges and universities. It’s an especially important role for our community, home to Asnuntuck Community College an institution that makes a huge contribution to a skilled workforce. Our local manufacturers need more skilled workers and I look forward to advancing job training and apprenticeship programs on the committee.”

The Higher Education and Employment Advancement Committee oversees job training programs, apprenticeships, institutions of higher education, the Board of Regents and the Office of Higher Education.  A Ranking Member serves as the leader of the minority party in committee meetings.

Rep. Hall will be returning to the Appropriations Committee, the committee handles all matters related to the budgets of state agencies, other issues under its banner include state employees’ salaries, benefits and retirement as well as pensions and collective bargaining agreements for state employees. Additionally, Rep. Hall will serve on the Public Safety Committee which oversees the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection as well as state and local police.
