Enfield Representatives Call for Legislative Response to Governor Malloy’s Budget Actions
Hartford – State Representatives Greg Stokes (R-58) and Carol Hall (R-59) responded the Governor Malloy’s Friday announcement that he would be holding back education funds and municipal aid appropriated in the recently passed budget.
“I am outraged by the actions taken by the Governor cutting Enfield’s education cost share and municipal aide. These cuts would have devastating consequences to our schools and community,” said Representative Hall. “We worked extremely hard to ensure the compromise budget that we passed was fair to all municipalities.”
Representative Stokes added, “Republicans and Democrats put in many hours of hard work to reach a compromise budget. I think it is unfortunate that the Governor has targeted Enfield repeatedly throughout the whole process, at one point proposing $26 million in cuts.”
The compromise budget agreement was passed with targeted savings lapses of $112 million for the 2018 fiscal year and $151 million in the 2019 fiscal year. Both the Republican and Democrat caucuses agreed on how to reach those savings and forwarded the information to the Governor’s office.

Representative Hall concluded, “This was the longest session in recent memory and we worked hard to arrive at an acceptable compromise plan to put the state on a better path, the Governor’s actions have jeopardized this work. I believe we should reconvene before the end of the year to restore municipal funding and enact the legislatively agreed to savings.”
“This has been a long process and we have worked hard to protect Enfield from the Governor’s actions, it’s clear that our work is not finished and I would urge my colleagues to join us in calling for reconvening special session,” said Representative Stokes in agreement.
