EAST HADDAM –Friday, July 30th State Rep. Irene Haines, Quinn McKenna of InCord, Director of East Haddam Parks & Rec Lisa Conroy, and many others close to the project celebrated the dedication of the brand new nest swing constructed at the East Haddam Town Beach.

In 2019, Rep. Haines met Quinn McKenna of East Haddam at CT Day at the State Capitol. They discussed the old nest swing at the Town Beach, which McKenna had played on as a child. He expressed interest in donating a new swing to the town, and asked Rep. Haines for her help.

Rep. Haines connected him with town officials including Lisa Conroy of Parks & Rec. She worked through the proper channels to get the donation approved. Installation of the new swing occurred in spring of 2020. The old swing was removed, and to ensure longevity and safety InCord designed an entirely new system for its replacement.

“This is the first time this kind of bracket structure has been installed in the United States,” said Kevin Biancamano, InCord Engineer and former East Haddam resident. The bracket includes 6-foot metal rods with reinforced concrete footings that should last for generations to come.

“Ron Turner, former East Haddam Facilities Manager and Micheal Olzacki worked with the public works crew on the install.  We are super grateful for the teamwork to make this happen,” said Conroy. “We all played here on the old swing!”

“This new swing will give great memories to so many children in East Haddam, and I am so proud that we could all come together and make this happen,” said Rep. Haines. “Thank you to everyone who worked on this project, especially Quinn for getting the idea in motion and the folks at InCord who donated their time and expertise to make it happen.”

McKenna, at the ribbon cutting with his young daughter said, “I am so grateful to be giving back to our local community!”  Natalie Banker, InCord’s Marketing Director, echoed the sentiment: “The gift of play is essential and we’re looking forward to future endeavors with the town of East Haddam.”
