Residents of the 34th District,

You will have the opportunity to drop off your worn American flags for a proper retirement ceremony later this year.

We have locations for you to drop off your flags in East Haddam and East Hampton, between June 2nd and June 12th. Also in Salem, from June 6th through June 12th, so you have plenty of time to get to your nearest location. The locations are listed on the graphics and you can contact me with any questions.

I wanted to take a moment and provide you with information on our state budget discussions. House Republicans are in the final phase of negotiations to develop it along with Governor Lamont, as well as General Assembly Democrats. HARTFORD— On Wednesday, two local state representatives from eastern Connecticut voted in favor of measures to help protect the public from recent wrong-way driving incidents plaguing our roadways. State Representatives Irene Haines (R-34) and Mark DeCaprio (R-48) joined their colleagues in Connecticut’s House of Representatives unanimously in passing the legislation.

State Grants Issued Locally for Open Space and Recreational Trails

On Monday, the Governor’s Office along with the Department of Environmental Protection announced a state grant rollout to plan, built, expand, and improve 50 trails across the state. Two of which that will directly improve trails in East Haddam and East Hampton. Last week, the Town of Salem was awarded a state grant through the Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition Program and Community Gardens Program for the Salem Land Trust.

Last week I had the opportunity to testify in front of the Public Health Committee on three bills that impact local first responders who provide so much to our communities. With emergency services being so critically important to our small towns, I needed to point out the realities regarding the increasing challenges our EMS professionals are facing.

I will continue to work on their behalf to ensure that the bills we are passing in this legislature improve training, recruiting, and retention.

Rare Disease Day at the State Capitol

On Thursday morning, the National Association for Rare Disorders held a legislative breakfast at the State Capitol that I had the opportunity to attend. I was there in support of all people who suffer from various rare diseases, that face a multitude of challenges that they face on a day-to-day basis. We had the opportunity to listen to advocates, legislators, and those living with diseases who shared their experiences with us.

HARTFORD— State Representatives Irene Haines (R-34) and Mark DeCaprio (R-48) enthusiastically support a House Republican parliamentary procedure to circumvent Democrat opposition to a bill that would save inflation-weary businesses and residents money by eliminating the new highway use tax (HUT) on heavyweight trucks.
