East Haddam Education Conversation

EAST HADDAM – State Representative Irene Haines (R-34) hosted an open conversation about education policy at the Grange Hall on Saturday, January 14th.

Constituents including; parents, teachers, Board of Education members and concerned citizens offered their concerns about budget requirements, state mandates, classroom safety and curriculum.

Rep. Haines, a new member of the Education Committee, shared, “I am eager to hear from constituents about education policy and the challenges currently facing our school systems. Many people have expressed a need to refocus efforts and bring back career and vocational courses, not just college preparation. Additionally we need look at reducing mandates where possible to lower costs and allow our teachers to focus on teaching, not just their administrative requirements.”

Next Education Conversation is scheduled for Tuesday, January 29th from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Community Room at the East Hampton Public Library, 105 Main Street, East Hampton.
