CELEBRATING INDEPENDENCE DAY 2021

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Did you know that we’ve been celebrating with fireworks for well over 200 years? The popularization of fireworks dates all the way back to 1777!

As we begin our holiday weekend of celebrations, I wanted to take a moment and share with you some fun facts about Independence Day; as well as, some local and virtual events.

Our country is rooted in deep history and our independence is no different. Just like our legislature here in Hartford, America’s independence was drafted and voted upon by the Continental Congress. From there our country fought for its freedom and began to take shape with its own laws.

If you attend a live fireworks display, I urge you that you leave your pets at home. Most shows will not accept dogs and each year an average of 30-60% of pets are lost over July 4th weekend.

I wish you, and your families, a safe and happy holiday.
