Hello Friends and Neighbors,
I hope you had a safe, healthy holiday weekend. I am writing to provide an update on the state’s COVID-19 response.
Daily updates regarding COVID-19 and the Governor’s Executive Orders can be found at www.RepFrance.com.
Extension of Public School and Non-Essential Business Closures
As COVID-19 begins to reach its peak in Connecticut, the governor announced the extended closures of public schools and non-essential businesses until May 20. All restaurants and bars may continue their current take-out/delivery operations.
COVID-19 has taken an incredible toll on our economy and I am working with the governor to open our businesses and schools when it is deemed safe. It is important to continue social distancing and using precautionary measures when getting necessities from the grocery store or when out in public spaces.

New Guidance on Residential Rent Protections
Also last week, the governor signed Executive Order 7X stating that landlords may not issue evictions to residential tenants before July 1, 2020 and must grant an automatic 60-day grace period for payment of April rent. Additionally, tenants may be granted a 60-day grace period for payment of May rent upon written request to their landlords, noting that the non-payment reason is COVID-19-related.
Please note that tenants remain liable for unpaid rent, and landlords and tenants must continue to comply with the terms of the original rental agreement.
As a reminder, the latest official guidance from the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Task Force is available at www.coronavirus.gov.
The state maintains a web portal with data and resources on the COVID-19 outbreak. Visit www.portal.ct.gov/coronavirus.
The Connecticut House Republicans have created a website with the latest on state and federal COVID-19 programs to assist residents and businesses affected by the outbreak. Visit https://www.cthousegop.com/covid19-programs/ to learn more.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have about the state’s pandemic response.
