The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a Public Open House for the proposed Stamford Transportation Center (STC) parking garage project on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Stamford Transportation Center, Lower Level Meeting Room (near CTTransit), 30 South State Street, Stamford, CT.
The open house format will allow commuters, station patrons, and other interested parties to learn about the project, view the latest architectural renderings, and ask questions of the Department’s design team. There will not be a formal presentation, so those interested in attending can do so at their convenience.
The proposed parking garage will be constructed on South State Street in the City of Stamford and will replace commuter parking in the aging original garage structure currently located on Station Place. The proposed garage will provide 960 commuter parking spaces, resulting in a net increase of approximately 130 state-owned spaces at the STC. The garage will be connected directly to the Track 5 platform via a pedestrian ramp and to the station via an enclosed pedestrian bridge over Washington Boulevard.
The proposed parking garage and pedestrian connections to the station and platforms are being advanced to design and construction as a design-build project, which is planned to begin in 2019. Parking will be maintained in the original garage structure throughout construction of the proposed garage to help minimize commuter parking impacts. The original garage will be closed upon completion of the proposed garage and will be demolished in the future under a separate construction contract.
The Department previously conducted a Public Scoping Meeting on October 24, 2018 at the Stamford Government Center in accordance with Connecticut Environmental Policy Act (CEPA) statutes. The formal comment period associated with the Public Scoping phase concluded on November 7, 2018. The Department is currently finalizing a Post-scoping Environmental Checklist that will include written responses to the public comments.
The Public Open House is being held to afford a full opportunity for the public’s participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have as the proposed project progresses into the Preliminary Design Phase.
The meeting facility is ADA accessible. Language assistance may be requested by contacting the Department’s Language Assistance Call Line at (860) 594-2109. Requests should be made at least five (5) business days prior to the meeting. Persons having a hearing and/or speech disability may dial 711 for Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS) and instruct the operator to contact (860) 594-2243. Language assistance is provided at no cost to the public and efforts will be made to respond to timely requests for assistance.
