State Representative Craig Fishbein (R-90) today announced that a Farmers to Family Food Box event will take place on Friday, August 7, at the Connecticut Sportsplex in North Branford.

Rep. Fishbein, who serves Cheshire and Wallingford’s 90th District, encourages constituents, and anyone in need, to make the short drive to this U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) event, which his office helped organize, to provide families in the region with free, fresh produce at a time when many are struggling financially.

The drive-up Farmers to Family Food Box event at Connecticut Sportsplex, 216 Foxon Road in North Branford, will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., or until the supplies run out. There will be approximately 1,400 boxes of fresh produce to be handed out or delivered during the event.

“I’m proud we were able to work together to bring this important USDA program to our area, and offer some help to families who are going without or struggling to obtain enough healthy food, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic” Rep. Fishbein said.

Participants will drive into the Connecticut Sportsplex parking lot, forming a line so volunteers can place the boxes of produce in their vehicles. The boxes will be placed in the backseat or trunk of the vehicle to limit contact, and maintain safe distancing.

Working together to organize the event along with Rep. Fishbein, are state representatives Vincent Candelora and Joe Zullo. They plan to also deliver several hundred boxes of produce to area food banks and community centers.

Rep. Fishbein will donate his share of the fresh produce to Wallingford’s Master’s Manna to assist in their mission of providing much-needed food and services to the Greater Wallingford community.

“Neighbors helping neighbors is what Master’s Manna has always been about, and I’m delighted we are able to donate so many pounds of fresh, healthy food to be distributed right here in our community,” Rep. Fishbein said.
