Saturday, April 27 is National Drug Take Back Day.

This event is part of a nationwide initiative to prevent prescription drug abuse and theft by encouraging residents to empty their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.  According to the DEA, nationwide, more than 460 tons of unwanted medications were turned in for disposal last year.

If you have unused or unwanted medication pills or patches (unfortunately, collection sites cannot accept liquids, needles or sharps), please bring it to the station for free, easy and anonymous disposal.

Collection sites are available throughout the area, including:

Wallingford

Wallingford Police Department

135 Main St., Wallingford, CT

– Officers at the main desk will accept prescription drugs for disposal

Cheshire

Cheshire Police Department

500 Highland Ave., Cheshire, CT

For more information, or to find other drop-off locations, please visit the “National Prescription Take-Back Day” website at DEA.gov.
