State Rep. Craig Fishbein joined more than a dozen volunteers from State Farm Insurance Thursday morning at Connecticut Foodshare to inspect, sort and package food for distribution to food pantries and shelters across the state.

The morning team consisted of more than a dozen Connecticut State Farm insurance agents, representatives from the corporate office in New Jersey, two regular volunteers and Rep. Fishbein, who packed more than 100 boxes of fruits, vegetables and dairy items for distribution.  To ensure quality, each piece of produce was inspected before being packed into a larger box and refrigerated.

According to the website, Connecticut Foodshare was founded in 1982 and is a member of the Feeding America nationwide network of food banks. “Connecticut Foodshare supports individuals and families – from one end of the state to the other – by addressing root causes, creating long-term solutions, and distributing nutritious food through local partner programs in an effort to alleviate hunger.”

If you or someone you know wants to help, Connecticut Foodshare has many options from volunteering your time to donating part of your Estate.
