DOL: Claimants Must Reapply for Benefits / DRS: Tax Filing Deadline Extended

I just wanted you to know that the Connecticut Department of Labor (CTDOL) is reminding claimants who filed at the beginning of the pandemic that their benefit year is coming to an end and they must re-apply for a new unemployment benefit year.

Each unemployment claim is valid for 52 weeks; after that time, claimants are notified that they must submit a new application using the blue button on www.FileCTUI.com. This system is available to claimants 24 hours per day, every day, in English and Spanish.

To be eligible for the benefit extensions under the American Rescue Plan, claimants must first file for a new benefit year if they have come to the end of their current benefit year. Additional information about American Rescue Plan provisions will be released soon and will be updated on the CTDOL federal programs webpage.

For filing assistance, customers may reach out to the Consumer Contact Center which handles around 3,000 cases per day and continues to experience heavy call volume. With a new scheduling feature on the website, claimants may make an appointment for a call. Filers are urged to check the website FAQs before calling the Contact Center to avoid wait times.

AMERICAN JOB CENTERS

Connecticut’s comprehensive American Job Centers are open by appointment for job search assistance, career counseling, recruitment services for employers, and other resources. Additional information and appointment scheduling is available on the CTDOL American Jobs Center webpage.

Dept. of Revenue Services: TAX FILING DEADLINE EXTENDED

business woman

The state Department of Revenue Services (DRS) has extended the filing deadline for Connecticut individual income tax returns to May 17th.

This extension aligns with the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Wednesday announcement, where it indicated federal income tax filings and payments would be extended until May 17th.

File Electronically
The DRS highly recommends electronic filing, including via the DRS online Taxpayer Service Center, which is easy, secure, and free to use. Electronic filing, along with requesting direct deposit, is the fastest way to receive a refund, if one is expected.

More Information
Taxpayers are encouraged to visit the DRS website for additional updates. To reach DRS by phone during normal business hours – Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. – call 860-297-5962 (from anywhere); 800-382-9463 (within CT, outside Greater Hartford area only); or 860-297-4911 (Hearing Impaired, TDD/TT users only).
