CT Democrats want to hike the sales tax, again!

Another day, another Democrat proposal to increase your taxes

On the heels of their proposals to increase taxes on groceries, medications and drivers with up to 82 toll locations throughout the state, CT Democrats have yet another proposal to “increase revenue” by raising the CT sales tax rate to 6.85%!

The bill language says the money generated from the increase will be given back to the municipality in which the tax is generated, however, I have serious concerns and am quite doubtful.  Sadly, the state has a history of diverting funds or moving money between accounts to prop up shortfalls in other areas; Education Cost Sharing (ECS) money and gas tax revenue that was supposed to be placed into the Special Transportation Fund for repairing our roads and bridges come to mind.

How long will it be before this extra tax gets taken from you and other residents of Cheshire and Wallingford and used somewhere else?

Let your voice be heard

If you would like to testify, there will be a public hearing regarding this bill on Wednesday, February 13th at 11 a.m. in room 2E of the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.

If you are unable to attend and address the committee in person, you can still submit testimony online.

Feel free to share this information with CT taxpayers who are sick and tired of tax hikes!
