GREENWICH – State Rep. Kimberly Fiorello (R-149th) today applauded the decision by the Connecticut Bond Commission to approve funding for renovations to the home of the all-volunteer Round Hill Volunteer Fire Company in Greenwich and for athletic fields at Stamford High School.

“These funds for Stamford High School and the Round Hill Volunteer Fire Company in Greenwich will go a long way toward helping our youth and volunteers, who make up the fabric of our community. Improving the sports fields at Stamford High School will help sharpen the skills of our student athletes, while giving them an essential space that fosters teamwork and sportsmanship,” said Kimberly Fiorello, R-Greenwich, Stamford. “Continuing a long tradition, our volunteers at Round Hill sacrifice time away from their families and loved ones as they work tirelessly to ensure the safety of our neighbors and their homes. While rejecting the earmarking process of Hartford politics, I always work to advocate in Hartford for the needs of our community.”

The commission on Friday approved a $1 million grant-in-aid to the City of Stamford for rehabilitation and improvements to existing baseball and softball fields at Stamford High School, as well as to construct two new fields for lacrosse and field hockey. The commission had also awarded Stamford $2 million in March for upgrades to the athletic fields.

The commission also approved $500,000 for the Round Hill Volunteer Fire Company, which is in need of renovations and remediation. The nonprofit fire company was formed in 1948 by landowners in the “back country” of Greenwich who wanted to reduce response times in their area and formed the organization as a result. Rep. Fiorello has been a stalwart supporter of volunteer firefighters and how they exemplify the New England spirit of volunteerism.
