CANTERBURY – In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday and the 22nd annual Read Across America Day, State Representative Doug Dubitsky (R-47) joined in the nationwide celebration by reading a book to kindergartners from Canterbury Elementary School.

The aim of the ‘Read Across America’ program is to raise literary awareness by motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources. The event also coincides with National Reading Month and is held on Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

“Literacy and good reading habits are vital to preparing children for future success,” Rep. Dubitsky said. “Read Across America emphasizes the importance of reading by encouraging children to pick up a book at an early age. Thank you to the Canterbury Elementary School for inviting me to participate in this year’s event.”

According to their website, The National Education Association seeks to build a nation of readers through its signature program, NEA’s Read Across America. The event involves more than 3.2 million teachers, librarians, athletes, celebrities, politicians, business professionals and everyday people reading to students all across the country.
