HARTFORD –Representative Doug Dubitsky (R-47) joined Governor Malloy, fellow legislators, and representatives from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection for the ceremonial signing of legislation to improve the long-term health and vitality of the state’s bee population, Public Act 16-17.

PA 16-17 creates a Pollinator Advisory Committee and takes other steps to help protect the bees and other pollinators so vital to agricultural production in this state. Rep. Dubitsky worked to ensure that the final legislation included a provision to fund the State Apiarist (Bee Inspector), who helps ensure the state’s bee population remains strong and healthy.

“With bee populations at risk in this state, it is important for the legislature to do what it can to protect the bees and other pollinators that help produce our food,” said Rep. Dubitsky. “Pollinators are the drivers of agriculture, and if we don’t protect them, we risk the collapse of Connecticut’s farms.

“I appreciate all of the hard work that my colleagues on the Environment Committee put into producing this legislation and getting it passed this year. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues in protecting our environment and Connecticut’s agricultural lands for future generations.”

The bill signing took place on Tuesday afternoon in the Governor’s office at the State Capitol.
