Rep. Dubitsky Visits Hampton Elementary Students

HAMPTON – State Representative Doug Dubitsky (R-Chaplin) spent the afternoon of June 16 speaking with students at Hampton Elementary School. Students from Ms. Sanchini’s third grade class prepared questions about how a bill becomes a law and specific bills they studied. Rep. Dubitsky was joined by State Senator Tony Guglielmo (R-Stafford) and Hampton First Selectman Allan Cahill (R-Hampton).
The legislators explained the bill-passing process using an example posed by a student: whether or not seatbelts should become required on school buses. They discussed the public hearing process and had the students engage in a brief mock debate. Rep. Dubitsky showed them how to find bill testimony and research bills online and explained how a proposal like this might be implemented.
The students also showed off their artwork and projects that were hanging in the school’s media center. They taught Rep. Dubitsky how to use their “Smart Table” and played graphic design videos they made.
“I was incredibly impressed by the amount of preparation the students put in for our discussion,” Rep. Dubitsky said. “They really knew their stuff, and they were so proud of the work that they showed us.”
“Thank you to the third graders at Hampton Elementary School for welcoming us to their media center,” Sen. Guglielmo said. “I always learn so much from the children and it is a blessing to share time with them.”
