Rep. Dubitsky Supports Sunday Bow Hunting

HARTFORD – State Representative Doug Dubitsky (R-Chaplin) on Wednesday supported legislation allowing Sunday bow-and-arrow deer hunting, a proposal the Republicans have pushed for several years.
The bill, H.B. 6034, permits bow hunting on private land with the landowner’s permission. However, it is limited to areas of the state the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) determines have an overpopulation of deer. House lawmakers voted 113-32 to allow the hunting measure, which gained support from the legislature’s Sportsmen’s Caucus.
“This is a very reasonable and limited bill that creates an opportunity for people who might not be able to go hunting during the week. Allowing this opportunity will not only benefit these sportsmen, but it will create a new source of revenue and help the environment,” Dubitsky said.
The law was voted in concurrence with the Senate on June 3 and is awaiting the governor’s signature.
DEEP supports the bill, which gives landowners the right to decide who is allowed on their property. Sunday bow hunting, the agency said in written testimony, will provide significant economic benefits without compromising safety.
