HARTFORD – State Representative Doug Dubitsky (R-47) has expressed criticism over Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s gimmick-ridden budget proposal, which continues to put Connecticut’s finances at risk and will drive away residents and jobs.
“The tax ‘cuts’ he proposed are nothing more than a distraction,” Dubitsky said. “Lowering the sales tax is a nice idea, but it will be completely offset by the various tax exemptions that will be eliminated such as the tax exemption on clothing.”
The Governor also outlined his thirty year transportation plan, which requires $10 billion in its first five years. While it is obvious that our state’s infrastructure needs improvement, Dubitsky points out that there is no source of funding for this plan.
“Clearly we need to dissect this budget line by line and debate the ways we can make it better,” Dubitsky said. “It is up to the Democrats to allow us to participate in the negotiations and present our ideas.”
The budget presented by the Governor will be brought up in both the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee and the Appropriations Committee. It will undoubtedly change and face debate and voting on the House and Senate floor.
