HARTFORD – The bill to waive the licensing fee for small trailer manufacturers, introduced by State Representative Doug Dubitsky (R-47), has overwhelmingly passed the House of Representatives on a 146 to 3 vote.

Under the bill, HB-5682, An Act Concerning Businesses that Construct Trailers with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of Ten Thousand Pounds or Less, manufacturers of trailers under 10,000 pounds GVW would no longer be subjected to Connecticut’s $2,300 licensing fee.

Trailer manufacturers have avoided selling their products in Connecticut due to the state’s high licensing fee. Rep. Dubitsky’s bill encourages manufacturers to sell their trailers in Connecticut and would give Connecticut trailer dealers a wider variety of trailers to offer for sale.

“Connecticut’s current $2,300 licensing fee is twenty to thirty times as high as the fee in most other states. My bill will help small trailer businesses by eliminating the exorbitant fee that no other state in the nation charges,” Rep. Dubitsky said.

The bill will now move onto the Senate for further discussions.
