CT Trails Weekend Events in Our Area

The weekend of June 6 is Connecticut’s Annual Trails Weekend. There will be events such as hikes, walks and paddles in forests and parks all over the state. For a complete list, check out this link to the Connecticut Forest and Park Association. The details of the events being held in our district are below. Any of these events would be a great opportunity to spend some time outdoors with family, friends or other nature enthusiasts.
HAMPTON
Educational Walk: Saturday, June 6 there will be a half mile educational walk at the Richard D. Haley Native Plant Wildlife Gardens from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. You can join leader Kimberly Kelly as she discusses what kinds of native plants will grow well in your yard. Meet at the Goodwin Forest Conservation Education at 23 Potter Road. Rain will cancel the walk.
Paddle: Saturday, June 6 there will be one mile, hour-long flat water paddle from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Groups will leave every hour on the hour, but it is recommended that you arrive early to register. Equipment will be provided. Rain date is Sunday, June 7. Meet at 23 Potter Road.
Nature Walk: Sunday, June 7 there will be a one mile nature walk on the Natchaug Trail from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Walkers will meet at 23 Potter Road, rain or shine.

LEBANON
Nature Walk: Saturday, June 6 there will be a two mile nature walk from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. along the Air Line State Park Trail. The walk will go through a beautiful bird habitat. Walkers will meet on the Air Line State Park Trail trailhead at Cook Hill Road. For questions, contact Nusie at 860-428-6911.
Educational Walk: Sunday, June 7 there will be a one and a half mile walk in the Whitney Forest from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Meet at the site across from 205 Oliver Road. Pre-registration is recommended. For questions or to pre-register, contact Lindsay at lsuhr@ctwoodlands.org.
Educational Walk: Sunday, June 7 there will be a one mile self-guided history walk from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Beginning in the Lebanon Town Green, the walk includes stops at the Governor Trumbull House, Wadsworth Stables, the War Office and Jonathon Trumbull Jr. House. The introduction will take place at the Lebanon Historical Society at 856 Trumbull Hwy. Maps will be provided. Contact the Lebanon Historical Society at 860-642-6579 or museum@historyoflebanon.org. LISBON
Trail Maintenance: Saturday, June 6 there will be a beautification effort in the Lisbon Meadows Park from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The work will span from one to three miles. Bring any tools that you think would be useful (wheelbarrow, rake, etc.). The group will meet at the Lisbon Meadows Park parking lot, approximately one mile north of the I-395 overpass on Route 169. Rain will cancel the event.
Run: The second annual Connecticut Trails Weekend Lisbon Trail Fun Run will be held at Lisbon Meadows Park, Sunday June 7 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. There will be a 5k for adults and a mile and a half loop for kids. All participants will receive a ribbon. Runners will meet at the Lisbon Meadows Park pavilion, approximately one mile north of the I-395 overpass on Route 169, rain or shine.

NORWICH
Educational Walk: Saturday June 6 there will be an educational walk on the Yantic River Greenway/Heritage Trail. The three mile walk begins at 10:00 a.m. and continues until 12:00 p.m. To join, meet at the gazebo at Howard T. Brown Park on Chelsea Harbor Drive, rain or shine.
Educational Walk: Sunday, June 7 there will be another educational walk at the Estelle Cohn Memorial Dog Park. Bring your dogs! The one and a half mile walk is from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and will go from the dog park to the Uncas Leap Heritage Area. The walk will begin at the dog park (261 Asylum Street) and will be canceled if it rains.

SCOTLAND
Hike: Saturday June 6 there will be a hike on the Waldo House Property from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Meet at the Waldo House, 96 Waldo Road. Bring a picnic lunch if desired.
