State Capitol News

Proposed Bill Deadline

This week we found out that the deadline to submit bill requests is February 10, one day after the official start of the legislative session. If you have any thoughts or ideas on proposed legislation please email my office.

Repeal Sales Tax on COVID Tests

On Wednesday my colleague and ranking member on the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, State Rep. Holly Cheeseman called for the repeal of the state sales tax (6.35%) on COVID test kits. We need to repeal this tax and I plan to add my name to legislation to stop this additional financial burden on families during the pandemic.

You can read Rep. Holly Cheeseman’s statement here.

2022 Major Issues

Every year, the state’s non-partisan Office of Legislative Research (OLR) issues its report on important issues that the General Assembly may face during the 2022 legislative session that begins on February 9th.

You can read the report here.

Important IRS Tax Information

There are a few new Internal Revenue Services (IRS) programs and bulletins that are available to you beginning today, January 14.

IRS Free File will open January 14 when participating providers will accept completed returns and hold them until they can be filed electronically with the IRS.

The IRS started sending Letter 6419, 2021 advance Child Tax Credit, in late December 2021 and continues to do so into January.
