TRUMBULL – On Sunday State Representatives David Rutigliano (R-123), Laura Devlin (R-134) and Ben McGorty (R-122) in conjunction with Homes For The Brave hosted a wildly successful ‘Stuff-A-Humvee’ collecting donations for local veterans.
During the two-hour donation drive the legislators collected a Humvee full of non-perishable food items and toiletries that will be donated to local veterans in need.
“I couldn’t be more-proud of our very generous and caring Trumbull community and I believe that together we can ensure that no veteran goes to bed cold or hungry,” said Rep. Rutigliano.
Rep. Devlin said, “These donations will make a meaningful difference in our veterans’ lives. I am heartened to hear that we collected so much, we filled the Homes for the Brave storage shed. This event was a team effort and a great success. I want to thank everyone who donated.”
“Trumbull residents came through this year for our veterans in a major way,” Rep. McGorty said, “We’re truly blessed to live in a community filled with so much love and gratitude for those who’ve served.”
Homes for the Brave has provided housing, vocational training, and life skills coaching to help individuals out of homelessness since 2002. To date, they have worked with nearly 1,200 men and women, most of whom are veterans.
According to the Homes for the Brave, they are in great need of cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, paper goods, linens and blankets. Also needed and in short supply is coffee, sugar and powdered creamer. For clothing, there is a real need for slippers, sweatshirts and sweatpants (XL-4XL).
