Congratulations to Mr. Joseph J. Giulietti on his appointment as the new Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Transportation replacing Governor Malloy’s current appointee James Redeker. State Senator Tony Hwang, State Representatives Laura Devlin and Brenda Kupchick released the following statement regarding the appointment of Joseph Giulietti as Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
Newly appointed committee House ranking leader Laura Devlin said, “In addition to our state roads, the Metro-North rail line is in desperate need of attention to better improve performance and rider experience and help spur economic growth. Given his background and experience, and the favorable impression I was left with after prior interactions with him before the Transportation Committee, I view Mr. Giulietti’s appointment as positive for Fairfield County and our state. I am also hopeful he will take measures to improve the efficiency of DOT and rigorously prioritize projects. As House Ranking member on the Transportation Committee I look forward to working with him.”
Senator Tony Hwang offered words of encouragement, “the appointment of Mr. Giulietti, the former Metro-North President is a strong signal that Governor-elect Lamont takes seriously the problems our region has faced when it comes to the service and safety of our rail lines. Strategic transportation development is a key to economic revitalization and improving the quality of life in our state. I look forward to working closely with Mr. Giulietti in my new role as a Member of the Transportation Committee to revitalize and innovate all aspect our transportation infrastructure in Fairfield County and throughout our state.”
Representative Brenda Kupchick said, “It’s been extremely frustrating to fight year after year for investments for Metro North and Fairfield County highways while watching both deteriorate under Governor Malloy’s administration. I look forward to serving on the Transportation Committee and working with Mr. Giulietti this session. I’m hopeful under a new administration and Mr. Giulietti’s leadership, Fairfield counties transportation issues will be addressed and Fairfield commuters will finally be heard”.
