On the north steps of the Capitol in Hartford on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, State Representative Tom Delnicki (R-14) joined 150 legislators in the House of Representatives in being sworn in, taking the oath of office in an outdoor ceremony.
January 6, 2021 is considered Opening Day for the legislature as it marks the beginning of the 2021 legislative session that will conclude on June 9, 2021. Rep. Delnicki, who was sworn in as state representative for the14th General Assembly District, which includes the town of South Windsor, indicated that fixing the state’s ailing budget, assisting unemployed residents and hurting businesses get back to work, and continuing to improve the crumbling foundations issue will all be top priorities.
“Families in our region were largely impacted by the issue of crumbling foundations, and now they are facing additional challenges as a result of COVID-19. I intend to pick up where we left off last session in working to provide much-needed relief to those impacted by crumbling foundations and to also address issues as the 2021 session gets underway. During the day, Governor Lamont addressed House and Senate members with his State of the State speech, which touched mainly on public health and economic struggles that continue to plague Connecticut after the effects of COVID-19.
This session, the legislature will be tasked with crafting a new two-year state budget that will fix the persistent deficits hampering economic recovery and the staggering unemployment rates.
Delnicki will serve as the Ranking Member on the legislature’s Banking committee, and as a member on the Planning and Development and Insurance and Real Estate committees. Delnicki will also serve as co-chair of the Crumbling Foundations Caucus.
