Delnicki Visits with South Windsor Seniors

SOUTH WINDSOR- Now that the 2024 legislative session has concluded, State Rep. Tom Delnicki (R-14) visited the South Windsor Senior Center this week and spoke to a crowded room of thoughtful town seniors.

Delnicki talked about a range of topics and bills that were passed this year that affect Connecticut seniors.

• A nursing home bill HB-5046 that adds consumer protections at assisted living centers, improve the oversight of nursing home management companies and phase out three and four-bed nursing home rooms beginning on July 1, 2026, by halting new admissions in rooms occupy two people already. Those currently living in a room with three or four beds will not be forced to move.
• A homecare bill HB-5001, that addresses several elder related issues, such as creating guidelines to protect older residents who live in assisted living facilities from financial and physical harm, providing resources to those who wish to age in their own home, and additional training to help improve the quality of care from homecare workers.
• Delnicki mentioned that he has a very good relationship with the other side of the political aisle and helped craft a new law on coercive debt SB-123, to stop financial abuse by a spouse as well as a law last year on frauds and scams perpetrated on seniors.

During discussion Delnicki was asked about addressing the constant threat of car thefts and area street-takeovers. “I was very disappointed the majority party chose not to pass meaningful legislation that would have made residents safer.”

Delnicki concluded the talk by telling the group they can find additional new laws passed this year in the 2024 Major Public Acts.
