Hartford – On Tuesday, State Representative Mark DeCaprio (R-48) announced that a $500,000 allocation from the State Bonding Commission was approved for the Colchester Public Schools Sound Fields Project. The approved project will fund the installation of audio enhancements across all four Colchester schools.

“I want to thank Governor Lamont and the bond commission members for approving this crucial project for the Colchester Board of Education,” said Rep. DeCaprio. “ Integrating sound field systems in classrooms are key in creating a conducive learning environment for all our students.”

The systems improve the auditory experience by evenly dispersing voices, including the teacher’s, throughout the room. This ensures that all students can easily understand instructions, explanations, and discussions, leading to better focus and comprehension. Sound field systems also benefit students with hearing impairments or learning disabilities by reducing background noise and the need to strain to hear. Sound field systems promote inclusivity by accommodating diverse learning needs and styles, creating a more equitable educational experience for all students. Their integration into every classroom is crucial for optimizing learning outcomes and providing equal access to education for all students.

“There have been some challenges and needs for the Colchester School District that have been brought to my attention over the last several months,” Rep. DeCaprio added. “With schools facing more cuts in the future, I plan on fighting for additional funding, so our youth has what they need to be successful in the classroom.”

State Representative Mark DeCaprio proudly represents the 48th General Assembly District including the towns of Borah, Colchester, Franklin, and Lebanon.
