ELLINGTON – State Representative Christopher Davis (R-57) hosted an afternoon legislative update at the Ellington Senior Center on Tuesday, March 19th.
Rep. Davis presented the major issues before the legislature and as Ranking Member of the Finance, Revenue & Bonding Committee detailed Governor Lamont’s proposed budget and tax increases. Residents shared their questions, comments and concerns about the proposed installation of tolls and property tax increases due to unfunded state mandates.
Rep. Davis commented, “Thank you to everyone who joined me at the senior center. We are facing major challenges this legislative session. The Democrat majority in the legislature and the new administration are focused on raising taxes on the middle class and shifting funds from towns to cities. Raising taxes on everything from professional services to non-prescription medications is the wrong approach if we want to attract businesses and retain families and seniors. My focus will continue to be creating economic growth and making our communities more affordable.”
