Education and Children Committee’s Homeschool Informational Meeting Wrap Up
Posted on May 8, 2025

On Monday, the homeschooling community made a strong showing at the State Capitol for the Education and Children Committee’s Homeschooling Informational Hearing.
I was grateful for the opportunity to speak, and I asked questions of the committee’s chosen panel, but I wish the same could be said for the thousands of homeschool families in attendance.
As I have emphasized repeatedly over the past few weeks, the tragic events that have emerged from Waterbury are in no way connected to the homeschool community. Anyone attempting to draw a link between the two is simply misguided. Throughout my time in this building, I have witnessed numerous occasions where majority Democrats have jumped to conclusions and reacted hastily. I want to be clear- we will continue to advocate for families, parental rights, and freedoms in Connecticut.
No law, policy, or amount of surveillance will ever catch every bad actor. We cannot legislate away all risk. At some point, we have to stop pretending that more government control equals more safety- It doesn’t. It just punishes the innocent in the name of catching the guilty.
No system will ever be perfect, and we have to accept that. Trying to “save them all” by regulating everyone leads us down a dangerous path where liberty is sacrificed for the illusion of security.
