KILLINGLY – State Representative Anne Dauphinais (R-44) spent a day touring the Westview Health Care Center and learning about the many ways it provides local seniors with state-of-the-art care.

Since opening in 1954, Westview Health Care Center has grown from a 50-bed elderly home into an 87,000 ft2 and 103-bed skilled nursing care facility that offers patients short-term or long-term care rehabilitation services.

After taking over the reins from his mother in 2001, who served the facility as owner/operator for more than 25 years, David Panteleakos, CEO/Administrator, has expanded and upgraded the building on several occasions. The facility is currently made up of 280 full-time, part-time, and per-diem employees and boasts a 99% occupancy – admitting patients and residents from more than twenty facilities across the country.

The subacute rehab unit provides programs designed to help people of all ages return to full health following a serious illness, injury, or surgery. Westview also features an outpatient sports medicine area which includes an aquatics center, one of only two offered in the state. A separate wing for taking care of adolescent pediatric patients has also recently been added.

Patients of Westview can also utilize other amenities such as a diner, movie theater area, and barber shop and beauty salon.

“This health care center completely changes the stereotypes that surround elderly facilities,” Rep. Dauphinais said. “The level of design and attention to detail here is like nothing I’ve ever seen before.”

Due to its tremendous work in providing state of the art care, Westview has been nationally recognized by U.S. News and World Report, receiving a 5 out of 5 stars rating for 9 consecutive years. They have also received a 5-star quality rating from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and were rated the highest staffed facility for nursing and therapy in Windham County.

“David and his staff have done a tremendous job in putting together not only a top notch facility but also providing top quality services for patients who rely on some form of rehabilitation,” Rep. Dauphinais said.

“The findings of the audit offer a sobering snapshot of the immense challenges facing DCF—alongside some deeply troubling failures in both performance and procedure. Some of these shortcomings, like those involving the STAR group home, were already known. But that makes them no less unacceptable. Children in these situations are among the most vulnerable in […]
