Rep. Dauphinais Promotes Literacy During Annual Reading Event
PLAINFIELD – Earlier this month, State Representative Anne Dauphinais (R-44) spent time reading to Shepard Hill Elementary School as part of the annual National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America Day.
The aim of the ‘Read Across America’ program is to raise literary awareness by motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources. The event also coincides with National Reading Month and is held on children’s author Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
“It was a pleasure to have spent time reading to students at Shepard Hill and to have taken part in an event that promotes the importance of literacy among children,” Rep. Dauphinais said.
As part of the annual event, Rep. Dauphinais not only read to 1st grade students, but also was invited to participate in their weekly ‘Live High Five’. The High Five program awards exemplary students, who have been chosen by their teachers, by inviting them down to the office first thing in the morning to give high fives to their weekly visitors and/or other staff.
According to their website, NEA seeks to build a nation of readers through its signature program, Read Across America. Now in its 22nd year, this year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources. It has become the largest reading event in the country.
