HARTFORD – State Representative Anne Dauphinais (R-Killingly) joined her fellow lawmakers and municipal leaders for an informational bus tour of eastern Connecticut provided by the Northeast Connecticut Transit District (NECTD).

The tour, organized by NECTD, was designed to provide the lawmakers with insight and awareness to the bus services they offer to individuals in need of a ride to work, a doctor’s appointment, the grocery store, or just around town to shop.

The shuttle has various routes through the towns of Brooklyn, Canterbury, Killingly, Putnam, Thompson, Eastford, Plainfield, Pomfret, Woodstock, and Union. NECTD estimates it provides approximately 50,000 rides per year.

According to NECTD, it costs $83,200 to fund the shuttle service annually. The Federal Transportation Authority (FTA) funds half, the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) contributes 33%, with the remaining 17% being funded from the participating municipalities.

“As I go around the district, I have found most people probably aren’t fully aware that they are eligible to ride these shuttles daily, as a result, I wanted to get the word out in order to let people know that these services are available to residents in Eastern Connecticut,” Rep. Dauphinais said.

Shuttle pick-up and drop off are also available on weekends, with the last arrival/departure time being 1:40 at the Killingly Commons.

For more information on shuttle times, pick-up locations, or stops visit www.nectd.org or call (860) 774-3902.

Some of these shortcomings, like those involving the STAR group home, were already known. But that makes them no less unacceptable. Children in these situations are among the most vulnerable in […]
